Lyle Lovett Donates Saddle to National Reined Cow Horse Association
World Championship Snaffle Bit Futurity
Byars, Oklahoma – July 22, 2002 – Singing star Lyle
Lovett has donated a special trophy saddle to the National Reined Cow Horse
Association’s World Championship Snaffle Bit Futurity.
The saddle will be given October 6, at the
conclusion of the Futurity Finals, to the owner of the Open Futurity
Champion.
Lovett has become a reined cow horse fan in
recent years and has a couple of horses entered in this year’s NRCHA World
Championship Snaffle Bit Futurity. He explains that the saddle donation is
just a way to “give back” to the cow horse industry.
“Since I’ve been attending these events and
meeting the individuals involved, everyone has been so friendly and
welcoming, this is one way to show my appreciation.”
Although best known as a recording artist
and actor, Lovett grew up on a ranch near Houston and has long had a love
for horses. A neighbor had a Shining Spark mare and he called breeder Carol
Rose to because he “wanted a horse like her.”
Through Rose, he purchased a good Shining Spark gelding
and began riding at her ranch with trainer Robbie Boyce. He was ready to
compete in time for this year’s National Reining Breeders Classic reining in
Katy, Texas in April.
That’s when an accident that resulted in a badly broken
leg sidelined him but he’s looking forward to getting into the competitive
arena as soon as he’s fully healed – likely December.
