October 1, 2002 – Reno, Nevada – Throughout the day on Tuesday, Todd Bergen
and Reminic Moon Shine held on to the lead in the rein work preliminaries
they had posted on Monday at the NRCHA World Championship Snaffle Bit
Futurity. Their 227.5 rein work score, combined with a 216.5 in the herd
work, gives them the top composite ranking as the action shifts to cow work
on Wednesday.
Reminic Moon Shine, by Reminic and out of Lenas Lacy
Moon, is owned by Vaughn Zimmerman of Springfield, Missouri. The rein work
preliminary win earned a gold buckle donated by Snowy Range Ranch of
Laramie, Wyoming, as well as a Mehl Lawson Bronze donated by the National
Reining Horse Association.
Bob Avila rode Light N Fine, owned by John Vaughn of
Arlington, Washington, to a score of 222.5 in the rein work. That combined
with his 219 in the herd work, gave the two-time Futurity champion a reserve
placing in the composite. Light N Fine is an AQHA stallion by Grays
Starlight out of Lenas Fine Freckle.
Finishing second in the Open rein work was Robbie Boyce
of Gainesville, Texas, with a score of 225 on Shiners Bolena, owned by Larry
Fish of Newport, Tennesseee. Shiners Bolena is a son of million dollar sire
Shining Spark out of Docs Suelena.
The action continues at the World Championship Snaffle
Bit Futurity on Wednesday with the first section of Open Cow Work
Preliminaries slated to begin at 8 am.
The herd work, rein work and cow work scores combined
will advance the top riders to the Open Finals, to be held Sunday, October
6. The winner will earn $100,000.
