December 20, 2002 – The 2003 dates and site for the World's Greatest
Horseman competition have been announced and the highly popular event will
take place June 5, 6 & 7 in Amarillo, Texas.
According to the National Reined Cow Horse
Association, the World's Greatest Horseman, presented by Western Horseman,
will be held in conjunction with Cowboy Roundup USA – a yearly festival of
all things "cowboy" that takes place each year in Amarillo.
"One Horse – One Rider and One Very Important
Title" has been the credo for the World's Greatest competition since its
inception. The contest features top horsemen and women competing in the
traditional cow horse All Around events. Cutting, reining, steer stopping
and cow work are all featured.
NRCHA President (and two-time World's Greatest
Horseman) Ted Robinson is looking forward to presenting the excitement of
the World's Greatest Horseman competition to the Cowboy Roundup audience.
"It's an opportunity to reach a whole new group of people," Robinson said.
"And with an audience like this, with such an appreciation for western
history, we feel that the tradition of the NRCHA will find a brand new set
of fans. We're also thrilled to have Western Horseman on board as the
presenting sponsor."
More than 20,000 people attend Cowboy Roundup
USA each year for activities from the Coors Ranch Rodeo, to an AQHA
Versatility Ranch Horse Show to a Cowboy Gear Show and Sale. Chuckwagon
cooking competition, horsemanship seminars, an Ice Cream Crank-off and
dancing, rodeo and singing are all featured. There's even a Washer Pitchin'
Championship.
